Amad recognised with December awards double

Amad has won Manchester United’s Player and Goal of the Month awards for December 2024, rounding off what was a breakthrough 12 months for him at Old Trafford.
While it was a difficult ending to the calendar year for Ruben Amorim’s team, the Ivorian’s contributions over the course of the month were a positive and have been recognised by supporters.
Our no.16 accumulated a majority 78 per cent of votes from fans in the Player of the Month poll on ManUtd.com and in the United app, while his derby winner away to Man City came out on top in the Goal of the Month category. Thank you to everyone who voted.
A Man-of-the-Match-winning performance in the 4-0 victory over Everton – in which he supplied two assists as part of a tireless wing-back showing – ensured he started the month in form, prior to adding a third December assist when teeing up Bruno Fernandes’s goal against Nottingham Forest on the following weekend.
Featuring further forward away to Viktoria Plzen, as an attacking midfielder, the Ivorian was instrumental in our comeback win in the Czech Republic and, three days later, played a starring role in another turnaround triumph at Manchester City, where he memorably notched the winning goal in stoppage time.
United couldn’t quite complete another reversal after going three goals down in the eventual 4-3 Carabao Cup quarter-final loss to Spurs, but Amad was bright again, this time as a substitute, scoring our second of the revival effort before his corner was converted by Jonny Evans for our third late on.
His contributions across December were enough to see him finish ahead of fellow nominees Manuel Ugarte (15 per cent) and Harry Maguire (7 per cent) in the poll, who had their own commendable moments during the month.
It means the Ivorian has now received the award twice this season, having won August’s edition and finished runner-up to Noussair Mazraoui in November.
His success in the Goal of the Month running, with his 90th-minute winner at the Etihad Stadium, also sees him become the first Red to claim both of the men’s team’s prizes for a single month this term.
Shortly after being fouled for the penalty that saw us level up the clash with City late on, the 22-year-old latched on to Lisandro Martinez’s aerial ball over the Blues’ defence, rounded goalkeeper Ederson and finished from an acute angle to ensure we would take all three points back across town.
The effort’s significance always meant it was a favourite for this prize, and so it proved, topping the poll with a resounding 85 per cent, to oust Rasmus Hojlund’s decisive strike at Plzen (8 per cent), as well as the attempts Amad set up for Fernandes against Forest (4 per cent) and Joshua Zirkzee versus Everton (3 per cent).
Our no.16’s derby decider is also up for the Premier League’s December goal accolade, and you can vote for it here.
