Former Manchester United player Luis Nani has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 38.

Nani took to social media on Sunday and posted a heartwarming video reel of some of his career highlights, alongside the surprise message of his retirement.

He wrote, “The time has come to say goodbye, I have decided to finish my career as a professional player.”

“It’s been an amazing ride and I wanted to thank every single person who has helped me and supported me through the highs and lows during a career which lasted over 20 years and gave me so many unforgettable memories.”

Nani had made his return to Portugal at the start of the ongoing season to play for Estrela da Amadora. He put pen to paper on a contract that was set to expire in the summer of 2025.

He made 10 appearances for Estrela da Amadora across all competitions, scoring one top-flight goal in that period.

Nani began his career at Sporting Lisbon’s academy set-up and made his senior debut for the Liga Portugal giants in 2005, under the management of Jose Peseiro.

Two years later, Nani sealed a blockbuster move to United.

At Old Trafford, the former Portugal international became a fan favorite, captivating supporters with his dazzling skills, exceptional goals, and iconic backflip celebrations.

Nani won four Premier League titles, one Champions League, four Community Shields, two League Cups and a Club World Cup during the seven successful years he spent in England.

He parted ways with the Red Devils in 2015 to join Turkish giants Fenerbahce.

Since then, he has embraced a nomadic career, featuring for clubs such as Valencia, Lazio, Sporting, Orlando City, Venezia, Melbourne Victory, Adana Demirspor, and Estrela Amadora.
