BACK David Tully May 28th 2026 Man Utd have had a “delegation” in Italy to negotiate several transfers, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano. While talks were held to secure the signature of Atalanta’s Ederson, Romano suggested that the Red Devils also had discussions with the representatives of another prominent midfielder: “Basically, what they did is fly to Italy with the delegation to start conversations on several topics. Don’t forget that, for example, the agents of [Sandro] Tonali are in Italy, and there are more things they can discuss, for example, exits for the summer transfer window. “So, Man United had several meetings; we know they are always very active in the Italian market.” Tonali could be the next deal Man Utd pursue It does look like the Red Devils are the team most actively pursuing a move for the Newcastle United midfielder. Other Premier League teams, including rivals Manchester City and Arsenal, have also considered making bids for Tonali. However, it appears that the most recent discussions have been with Michael Carrick’s side. Agreeing a fee with Newcastle may still be the biggest obstacle to overcome. The Magpies have recently agreed to sell Anthony Gordon to Barcelona for €80m (£69m), so they are not desperate to offload other players. Ederson may secure his move by the end of the week It seems as if the Atalanta star’s transfer to Old Trafford will be finalised over the coming days. United have reportedly agreed a fee in the region of €45m (£39m), including add-ons. Ederson is not expected to be the club’s marquee midfield signing for the summer, but it is believed Carrick is a fan of his versatility, and having a player with his skillset in the first-team squad should prove useful.
