Man Utd minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe believes Manuel Ugarte “should be sold” at the end of the season, according to reports. Writing for The Athletic, journalist Laurie Whitwell said Ratcliffe is not impressed with the Uruguayan’s performances. Ugarte started United’s last home game against Leeds due to the absence of Kobbie Mainoo, and Ratcliffe was again unhappy with what he saw from the midfielder. Of course, the likes of Director of Football Jason Wilcox, CEO Omar Berrada and Head of Recruitment Christopher Vivell are expected to make the final decision on the player’s future, but it appears his time at Old Trafford could soon come to an end. Where could Ugarte go? It is believed that both Galatasaray and Fenerbahce have shown interest in the 25-year-old, but it is very unlikely that the Red Devils would get anything close to the £50.5m they paid Paris Saint-Germain for the player in the summer of 2024. Based on his form over the last two seasons, Ugarte’s value in the market has depreciated significantly, and they would be lucky to get back half of what they paid for him. Even if that is the case, though, most fans would still want to get rid of him. In an ideal world, United would probably prefer to add three new additions in that area of the pitch, but finances may limit them to only two. If they splash out £100m+ on a player like Elliot Anderson, or slightly less on Aurelien Tchouameni, then the second signing would have to be brought in for a significantly lower fee as well. That may be why Juventus’s Teun Koopmeiners has been mentioned as a potential target. The Dutchman could be available for €30m (£26m) this summer. Want more news on Man Utd?
