Rio Ferdinand Tips Man United To Sign £121m AFCON Star Amid 100% Transfer Claim

BACK Dylan Oakley Jan 19th 2026 Former Man United defender Rio Ferdinand thinks Man United are going to spend £121m on a striker.  The Red Devils had a fantastic start to life under Michael Carrick, as they beat rivals Man City 2-0 at Old Trafford, and are now just one point behind fourth-placed Liverpool. Carrick will be delighted with how he began as United boss, but he will now hope that the United board will back him in the transfer market, as he aims to get Man United back into the Champions League during his time in charge. The Red Devils signed Benjamin Sesko in the summer, but he has scored just four league goals since. Rumours are beginning to suggest that United could invest heavily in a new striker in January. Ferdinand tips Man United to sign Victor Osimhen Man United have been linked with Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen for a long period of time, and they are reportedly interested in him again. According to TeamTalk, Galatasaray have slapped a £121m price tag on Osimhen amid the fresh interest from United. Former Man United captain Rio Ferdinand thinks the Nigerian target man would “100%” want to come to Old Trafford, and could see the move happening. He said on his YouTube channel: “Osimhen will come to United, if United offer to take Osimhen, he would go, 100%. That is the type of striker we need right now, we have Mbeumo on the side doing what he needs to do.” The only issue is how much Osimhen could cost, so United may have to wait until the summer to make a move, when Galatasaray will likely be more willing to sell him. Carrick benched Sesko against Man City Another telling sign which may suggest United want another striker is that Carrick opted not to start Sesko against Man City at the weekend. Instead, he decided to play Bryan Mbeumo up front, with Bruno Fernandes, Patrick Dorgu and Amad Diallo in a three behind the Cameroon star. Considering he didn’t trust Sesko against City, Carrick may have asked Man United for a new striker to play instead of Sesko, and Osimhen could be that man.
