Brighton and Hove Albion vice-chairman Paul Barber has issued a statement in response to ongoing rumours that Manchester United are back in for Carlos Baleba. United exploring midfield signings During the summer, the bulk of United’s transfer efforts focused on bolstering the attacking department after a goal-shy 2024/25 season. The club forked out north of £200m on the acquisitions of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko from Wolves, Brentford and RB Leipzig respectively. United also brought in goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp on deadline day. At one point during the window, the Red Devils contemplated making a move for a midfielder, having identified Baleba as their top target. Baleba has enjoyed a meteoric rise since making the move to Brighton from Lille in August 2023. However, United pulled out of a deal after being made aware of Brighton’s excessive asking price for the Cameroonian. It’s believed that Baleba was open to sealing a switch to Old Trafford. United postponed their interest in the player until the summer of 2026, when more funds are likely to be available. Despite Baleba’s slight decline in form, United are thought to still be keen on luring him to their ranks. A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Ruben Amorim’s side are interested in a January swoop. It was stated that United assessed the feasibility of a deal but Brighton’s stance remains the same – Baleba will not be sold this month. Now, Barber has confirmed as much. Brighton chief responds to fresh Baleba to United speculation The Brighton vice-chairman told talkSPORT, “(We’ve had) no call from anyone connected to Manchester United.” “We have no plans or desire to sell Carlos in this window, or in any future window.” He added, “But we know he’s a talented player and he’s got a lot of options ahead of him in the future.” Paul Barber on fresh Baleba #MUFC links: “(Weve had) no call from anyone connected to Manchester United.
