Kai Rooney set to “follow in his dad’s footsteps” by completing momentous milestone

Kai Rooney is set to play a match at Old Trafford for the first time as Manchester United prepare to face Peterborough in the FA Youth Cup. As the son of Man United legend Wayne Rooney, Kai has some big shoes to fill. Despite the pressure, he has already proven his talent, growing in leaps and bounds to become one of the academy’s most exciting prospects. Rising up the ranks In May, Kai scored two goals to lift United’s U15s to a 3-1 win over Chelsea in the Premier League Floodlit Cup national final. What’s more, Kai made all the difference in the Floodlit Cup North final as well, where United booked its place in the national final. After going 3-0 down to Manchester City, United made a jaw-dropping comeback to win 4-3, with Kai scoring a dramatic extra-time winner. As a result of his massive impact, the young Rooney was bumped up three age groups to the U19s. Unfortunately, his impressive form was disrupted when he suffered an injury in September, at which point he claimed that “life can’t get worse.” Fortunately, it seems that Kai will be back in action in no time, given an exciting new update. Back in business “Kai Rooney could finally follow in his dad’s footsteps by debuting at Old Trafford next month,” The Mirror (via Sky Sports) noted. “The 15-year-old son of United’s record goalscorer Wayne Rooney looks set to recover from a foot injury in time for the FA Youth Cup tie with Peterborough in December.” “INEOS blocked the youth team playing at Old Trafford last season as part of cost-cutting measures,” the report concluded. Given his excellent track record in a United jersey, it will be exciting to see how Kai fares as he takes to the Old Trafford pitch for the first time, in what is sure to be a momentous occasion.
