Manchester United should re-sign Danny Welbeck as the experienced striker would make a “huge difference to results on the pitch” for Ruben Amorim’s side, Louis Saha claims. A Former Red Devil Welbeck came through the academy at Old Trafford, making 142 appearances for his boyhood club, scoring 29 goals and providing 16 assists in the process. It constitutes a modest return for a centre-forward – but Welbeck’s effectiveness has always stemmed from his all-round play, his ability to help the other members of the frontline shine as much as himself. United sold Welbeck in 2014 to Arsenal for £16 million. He would return 32 goals and 13 assists in 132 appearances at the Emirates, before moving to Watford in 2019 and then joining Brighton & Hove Albion a year later on a free transfer. And it’s on the south coast where the English forward has shown the best football of his career as he ages like a fine wine for the Seagulls. Despite turning 35 just a few days ago, Welbeck has scored seven goals in 12 Premier League appearances this season – only Erling Haaland and Thiago have more. Last season, it was 10. And it’s this combination which Saha believes Amorim’s squad is in desperate need of. A Game-Changing Signing Speaking to the punditarena.com (as relayed by The Sun), Saha revealed he would have “loved” United to target Welbeck last summer – for three key reasons. “I would have loved United to sign Danny at the start of the season. He’s not just very talented, but he’s very efficient and he’s experienced. “When I came to the club, there was [Ruud] Van Nistelrooy and [Ole Gunnar] Solskjaer, but we had more than that. We had [Carlos] Tevez and Alan Smith, and there was depth, there was a variety. We all learned from each other. “I think Sesko and other forward players would benefit by having someone like Welbeck to challenge them, to make them learn more about the game, more about positioning. ” The former Manchester United striker, who also enjoyed spells for Tottenham Hotspur, Fulham, Everton and Fulham in the Premier League, is adamant Welbeck’s signing in January would have a dramatic effect at Old Trafford. “Welbeck’s experience would give an example for them to all learn from, and I think if Danny arrives in the winter transfer window, he could make a huge difference to results on the pitch.” The Peoples Person has been one of the world’s leading Man United news sites for over a decade.
