Manchester United have started the season better than most expected, just two points behind third place after eleven league games. Wing back issues Nonetheless, the squad is still in need of improving and one area that fans are still unsure of is the wingback spot. Patrick Dorgu was signed last January and Ruben Amorim has converted Amad into a right wing back. There are still question marks over United’s long term plans for these positions though and the poor form of Diogo Dalot only exacerbates the problem. United were very interested in another Sporting CP youngster earlier this year in the shape of Geovany Quenda, but were beaten to the punch by Chelsea. Salvador Blopa links United may have just found a new Sporting CP starlet to pursue though according to reports in England. The Daily Mail states that, “Manchester United are exploring a move for Sporting Lisbon defensive prospect Salvador Blopa.” The 18 year old can play as a right back or right midfielder, highlighting his attacking and defensive skillset. The paper adds that, “Blopa is already 6ft 2ins tall and offers a more physical presence both in defence and going forward.” He has been a regular in Sporting B’s team but made his debut for the senior team last month, scoring a brace in the Portuguese League Cup win over Alverca. Real Madrid are also said to be interested in the starlet but “United are understood to have taken initial soundings and held conversations regarding his availability.” Despite only making limited senior appearances, Blopa has already been likened to former teammate Nuno Mendes, now at Paris St Germain, “with his effervescent running and reading of the game.” United will hope that their strong links with Sporting could be crucial in helping them seal the deal for the talented young Portuguese.
