‘No longer a hot commodity’: Utd man issued brutal reality check as it’s now a ‘running gag’ to consider signing him

Journalists over in Germany have deemed Borussia Dortmund’s frequent links with Jadon Sancho a ‘running gag’.They’re not wrong, either.Every time a transfer window rolls around, the outcast Manchester United forward is tipped for a Signal Iduna Park return. It’s not hard to see why, as Sancho’s most prolific form to this day came during his four-year spell in Germany, which saw him establish himself as one of Europe’s hottest prospects around 2020.Jadon Sancho’s United tenure has left far too much to be desired(Photo by Stu Forster/Getty Images)A year later, when he was still such a coveted and young star, United shelled out £73 million to add him to their ranks – a transfer that has since been viewed as one of the worst in the club’s history, given how poorly he fared in the two seasons he actually played at Old Trafford. He did return to Dortmund for a half-season spell following his fallout with Erik ten Hag in January 2024, but neither party opted to make his move permanent upon the culmination of his loan. The 25-year-old then spent the entirety of 2024/2025 with Chelsea, who, at the end of his agreement, opted to pay a £5 million penalty to send him back to United rather than activating his £25m buy option.Sancho has remained in England for the current term, testing his exploits under the guidance of Unai Emery at Aston Villa. There is no buy clause included in the deal, meaning he will return to Manchester in the summer of 2026, which coincides with his contract expiring.Dortmund uninterested in another Sancho reunion (Photo by Alex Pantling/Getty Images) From there, it remains to be seen where the former England international will ply his trade. United, on the other hand, are ready to just wash their hands of the situation – as are Dortmund.Journalist Manfred Sedlbauer said of Sancho on The Dortmund Week podcast: “It’s like Groundhog Day every six months. Shortly before every transfer window, it’s become customary in Dortmund to discuss Jadon Sancho.”Oliver Muller added: “He’s no longer a hot commodity on the transfer market.”“It’s true that some fans long for it. But it’s not a realistic scenario. The fans always hope that the sight of Phoenix Lake will ease his tension. But that’s nothing more than a fairytale.”
