Double blow for Man United as Amorim reveals in-form duo are doubtful for Brighton

Manchester United could be without Harry Maguire and Mason Mount when they host Brighton on Saturday. The two Englishmen have been revitalised under Ruben Amorim, and were also on the scoresheet in recent fixtures. The attacking midfielder broke the deadlock in the 2-0 victory over Sunderland a fortnight ago, while Maguire emerged as Man Utd’s ultimate hero last Sunday, when he nodded home the winner at Anfield. But while both players were tipped to maintain their starting berths this weekend, Amorim’s latest updates have cast doubt over their availability. The Portuguese boss has reassured that neither player has suffered a serious injury, but he cannot guarantee their presence against the Seagulls.“The squad is fine, but we have some doubts, some issues during the week with Maguire and Mount.” revealed the 40-year-old in his pre-match press conference via the Manchester Evening News.“Knocks, but nothing serious, we shall see tomorrow.”How would Man Utd cope without Mount & Maguire? While it remains to be seen if either Englishman will receive a call-up, Amorim might decide against risking them from the start. Therefore, Leny Yoro could return to the starting lineup as a replacement for Maguire, playing alongside Matthijs de Ligt and Luke Shaw at the back. This trio has already connected on several occasions this season, most recently against Sunderland. In attack, Mount’s absence could see Amorim resorting to his three big summer signings, namely Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. The three newcomers were expected to play together more often, but Mount has surprisingly cemented himself as a regular starter since the start of the season. Hence, Cunha and Sesko have been vying for the centre-forward role.Lisandro Martinez also pushing for his returnIn addition to Mount and Maguire, the manager also provided updates on Lisandro Martinez, whose return to action is drawing ever closer.“I don’t know when he will be fit. He trained really well, not with us but on the next pitch, and I was watching the training. “He is feeling well and responding well, so I don’t want to say a specific day or one week but he is near to start training with the team, and then it depends on the rhythm of Licha if he wins the place or not. That will depend on him but he is closer to a return to training.”The Argentine has been on the sidelines since suffering an ACL injury last February.
