“At the beginning…”: Anfield hero opens up on great understanding with in-form ace, United fans will love this link-up

Manchester United’s 2-1 win against Liverpool at Anfield last week will live long in the memory of all fans around the globe. Not only did the Red Devils break their Anfield curse, but Ruben Amorim also picked up back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time. The result would not have been possible without Amad and Bryan Mbeumo, with both stars combining for the opening goal which was scored within the first minute. The duo seem to be striking up a brilliant understanding as seen from last Sunday’s encounter. Amad regularly overlapped with the Cameroonian cut in, while he underlapped when the summer signing stayed wide. Great understanding between Amad and Mbeumo Speaking to club media, the Ivorian revealed how they have struck up a friendship, both on and off the pitch, which has helped them understand what they need to do when playing together. “At the beginning, because he was a new player, we were trying to understand each other,” said Amad. “But now we find a solution: when he goes to right wing-back, I go as a no.10. When he plays as a no.10, I stay as a right wing-back. “So I think now we have a very good relationship, even outside the pitch. This is very important: not only to have a good relationship in the pitch, but also to have a good relationship outside the pitch, to put some things [together]. “A player has to be ready to play every position. I’m just here to give my best every game.” The ex-Atalanta wonderkid also excels as a No.10, but he has no qualms about playing as a wingback with the former Brentford ace playing further up field. Squad harmony This understanding is helping the team maintain squad harmony, which can go a long way in determining the club’s fortunes this season. “If Bryan plays no.10, I am so happy and, if I play no.10, I’m so happy,” he added. “But, for me, the most important thing is helping the team. “If we win, we are happy! It’s nice. We’ve got good players and big talents. We knew already that Bryan, with Brentford, what he did with them was big things. “So we tried to bring him here to do the same and he is doing the same. We are really happy for him because he’s a humble guy, a really nice guy. I hope he can help us to score more goals, especially in the big games.” All set for Brighton test Now, the focus has to shift to Saturday’s encounter against bogey side Brighton and Hove Albion. The Liverpool result is history, and Amad reiterated the importance of continuing the winning run at Old Trafford on Saturday. “It was a good day for everyone, because it was long time – nine years – that we didn’t win away against them,” he said of the success against Liverpool. “So this was very special for everyone. “But we want to keep going like this. The big test for us is Saturday, against Brighton.
