United fans know just the legend who would fix Amorim’s side’s goalscoring woes in an instant

It is no secret that Manchester United have struggled for goals in recent seasons.

Goalscoring woes

They managed a mediocre 44 in 38 Premier League games last season.

This resulted in a total revamping of the attack in the summer with Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko all signed.

Nonetheless, United are still far away from firing on all cylinders despite creating a lot more chances as they have only found the net nine times in seven matches so far this season.

The Peoples Person conducted a poll amongst its readers asking people to decide which attacking legend could make this side tick.

Wayne Rooney

33% of fans decided that United’s all-time leading goalscorer Wayne Rooney would be the man to solve the club’s problems.

Rooney played in an all-conquering United side, scoring 253 goals in 559 appearances.

The Liverpool born striker was much more than a goalscorer though as he was an intelligent provider and never gave less than 100% on the pitch.

Ruud van Nistelrooy

28% of supporters believe that the clinical Dutchman would be the answer to United fans’ prayers.

Whilst lacking the defensive work or creativity of Rooney, there is no doubt Van Nistelrooy was the better finisher.

He scored 150 goals in just 219 appearances at Old Trafford and delighted the Stretford End in his relentless pursuit of goals.

Eric Cantona

Perhaps surprisingly just 17% of fans voted for the United icon Eric Cantona.

The Frenchman did leave the club in 1997, meaning many fans would have only seen videos of him play for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side.

Nonetheless, the magical Frenchman inspired United to four league titles in five years and two FA Cups.

The talisman was a symbol of the 1990s and many credit him as one of, if not the main protagonist of United’s revival in this decade.

Robin van Persie

12% of readers believe that Van Persie would be an ideal solution to United’s lack of goals.

The elegant striker only spent three seasons at Old Trafford but inspired the team to their last league title victory in 2013.

Van Persie was lethal on the ground and in the air as he tortured Premier League defences for Arsenal and United for years.

The rest

7% of supporters voted for the King of the Stretford End, Denis Law.

The sensational Scotsman scored 237 goals in the famous red shirt and won the European Cup in 1968 alongside Bobby Charlton and George Best.

There is no doubt the Ballon d’Or winners’ predatory instincts in the box would help this current side.

Only 2% felt Mark Hughes could help this current team above other options and 1% felt another striker from United’s past would be able to solve the club’s current woes.
