Amorim reject plotting explosive return to Old Trafford despite INEOS having already signed his replacement – report

Andre Onana is enjoying life away from Manchester United this season. The Cameroonian left the Premier League giants this summer to move to Trabzonspor on a season-long loan.

Onana was initially brought in to replace David De Gea at Old Trafford. Erik ten Hag wanted a ball-playing custodian and turned to his former Ajax pupil in the summer of 2023.

Fresh from helping Inter Milan reach the Champions League final, Onana was expected to sort out United’s goalkeeper position for the next few years. Unfortunately, his time at the Theatre of Dreams turned out to be a nightmare.

Onana divided opinion among fans and critics during his two-year stay, where he was culpable for numerous errors between the sticks. Ruben Amorim ultimately took a stand this summer, signing Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp to sort out his goalkeeping woes.

Onana regaining his mojo in Turkey

Onana had already fallen behind Altay Bayindir at the start of this season, and Lammens’ arrival turned out to be the final nail in the coffin.

Trabzonspor offered him a lifeline by proposing a simple loan deal covering his £170,000 weekly wages, which all parties agreed to. The 29 year old has shown signs of his old form since moving to northeastern Turkey, registering one clean sheet from four games, while conceding five goals.

A recent report from The Peoples Person has stated that the Super Lig side are pleased with the player’s efforts and are already considering tying him down to a new permanent deal.

While there’s no obligation or option to make the deal permanent at the end of this season, Trabzonspor are planning to sit down with United to discuss a deal.

Onana wants Old Trafford return

A fresh report from The Sun, however, states that Onana is planning to return to United at the end of this season.

The Cameroonian is happy at Trabzonspor and is enjoying the adulation from fans and the local media. However, he doesn’t see his long-term future at the Turkish club.

The report states: “MANCHESTER United outcast Andre Onana is “feeling the love” again now he has left the club on loan. But the 29-year-old still plans to return to Old Trafford for their next pre-season in the summer.”

Onana is reportedly aware that he hasn’t lived up to expectations at Old Trafford in the last two seasons. Ruben Amorim selected Bayindir ahead of the Cameroonian this season in the Premier League, although the Turkey international struggled to impress as well.

Onana’s only appearance was in the EFL Cup defeat to Grimsby Town, where he was at fault for both goals as the Red Devils exited the tournament.

With Lammens gathering widespread praise following his impressive debut in the 2-0 win over Sunderland last weekend, it appears that the Cameroonian’s time at United is all but over. Onana conceded 150 goals from 102 games for the Premier League giants, registering only 24 clean sheets, and is under contract until 2028.
