Fabrizio Romano gives key update on Bruno Fernandes’ future that will delight Man United fans

Bruno Fernandes has been indispensable for Manchester United since arriving from Sporting in January 2020.

The Red Devils signed the Portuguese midfielder in a reported £47m deal – and he has turned out to be one of the finest signings of the club in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.

Bruno has registered 100 goals and 86 assists from 298 games in all competitions for the Premier League giants to date, winning the FA Cup and the EFL Cup.

However, his future has been subject to speculation for a while. The 31 year old reportedly turned down a colossal offer from Al-Hilal to move to Saudi Arabia this summer.

While he continues to be a key figure under Ruben Amorim at the moment, Bruno remains linked with a move away from the Theatre of Dreams at the moment.

Unhappy at a deeper role

Recent reports have suggested that the former Sporting ace is unhappy at being deployed in a deeper role this season. Bruno has been the creative spark for United since arriving at the club.

He has thrived in the attacking midfield role, where he has regularly found the back of the net as well as set up teammates.

However, things have changed this season following the arrival of Matheus Cunha over the summer. With the Brazilian and Mason Mount now preferred in the left forward position, the Portuguese has been deployed in a pivot alongside Casemiro, where he has had to pick up greater defensive responsibilities.

The situation has further added to the uncertainty regarding his future. The Peoples Person recently reported that Saudi clubs are preparing to return for the United talisman in January. Acclaimed journalist Fabrizio Romano has now shed light on those rumours.

Bruno not in contact with Saudi clubs

In his column for GIVEMESPORT, Romano insisted that everything’s quiet regarding Bruno’s future and that the player remains focused on United.

“Nothing at all at the moment. Full focus on United, new deal was signed one year ago, so nothing concrete at this stage. Saudis remain interested as they’ve been for the last three years but nothing else now,” said Romano.

It is understandable why Bruno Fernandes’ future has been subject to speculation. The player is already on the wrong side of 30, and his value will decline as the years go by.

The Portuguese reportedly earns £375,000 per week at Old Trafford, so INEOS could also be tempted to remove his wages from their books. However, one has to remember that even from a deeper position, Bruno Fernandes has been decisive for the Premier League giants once again this season.

Replacing his all-around abilities in a dysfunctional team could be next to impossible. United remain heavily dependent on their talismanic skipper, so they would be wise to hold on to him for as long as possible.
