“Only the best capable of surviving”: National team boss gives major vote of confidence in United’s struggling star

Life has not been the easiest for Manchester United’s new signings with the club’s poor start to the season.

Early struggles

Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha have weathered the storm a little better owing to their Premier League experience and Senne Lammens has not yet played a minute.

United’s new expensive striker Benjamin Sesko has felt the pressure more as he has been adapting to life in England.

He originally struggled for game time but has been more recently involved, starting against Manchester City, Chelsea and Brentford.

Sesko scored his first goal for the Red Devils last weekend and was one of the few positive notes for Ruben Amorim to take away from the 1-3 loss against Brentford.

Speaking to Planet Nogomet, Sesko’s boss at international level, Matjaž Kek, has predicted that life will soon get better for the giant forward.

The Slovenia boss sympathised that the 22-year-old is now dealing with an entirely different level of exposure and would need time to adapt.

Pressure

He explained, “this (the Premier League) is the most watched level of competition, but also the most difficult. The numbers are huge. When the numbers start rolling in for certain transfers, when various analyses begin, when viewership increases, it’s clear that you’re increasingly exposed.”

The boss likened it to the NBA or top 10 tennis players in the world and the pressures they face in comparison to the rest of the field.

Commenting on United’s current situation he claimed, “the club is under scrutiny, with the public analysing everything good and bad. At the moment, there is considerably more of the latter. Only the best are capable of surviving this and proving themselves at this level.”

Sesko will succeed

Despite the player’s current issues, Kek is certain that the young striker will soon find his feet for United.

He elaborated, “my personal opinion, and not just because I am Benjamin Šeško’s coach, is that he will succeed sooner or later. If you want to be at this level, you have to be the best. Not only on the pitch, but you also have to be able to accept everything that happens around you.”

The national coach pointed to the example of Sesko scoring at the weekend but little attention being paid to it owing to United ultimately losing the match.

Sesko will hope to add to his goalscoring tally this weekend versus Sunderland before he joins up with the Slovenia squad to take on Kosovo and Switzerland in World Cup qualifying.

Alex is a huge Manchester United fan, inspired by greats of his homeland such as George Best, Harry Gregg and Norman Whiteside. Proud owner of such niche shirts such as Kleberson, Eric Djemba-Djemba and Gary Neville. Grew up pretending to be Ruud van Nistelrooy and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the back garden, with little success.
