“That’s what matters most”: Fernandes shows his true colours in rousing declaration as he’s honoured by United

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes delivered a heartfelt message after the club honoured him at Carrington for reaching a milestone 100 goals.

Fernandes hits century of goals for United

Fernandes reached the 100-goal landmark for United last weekend as the team beat Chelsea 2-1 at Old Trafford.

The Portuguese playmaker opened the scoring after 14 minutes, latching onto a pass from Patrick Dorgu and finishing neatly.

Remarkably, Fernandes marked his 200th Premier League appearance for United by scoring his 100th goal.

In doing so, he became the 23rd man to score a century of goals for the Red Devils.

On Wednesday afternoon, Fernandes was presented with framed artwork to commemorate his milestone. Since joining from Sporting Lisbon in 2020, he has been a key figure for United, and the club duly honoured his contribution.

In his speech, Fernandes expressed gratitude to his teammates and everyone at United for their support, while stressing that personal accolades mean little compared to winning trophies.

United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, said, “This is just a small presentation of recognition to Bruno, our captain. As you know, he’s scored 100 goals for Manchester United, which is an amazing achievement.”

“Bruno, as you know, you all know him well, is a captain who leads by example; to any young players, he’s a shining example of what it takes to be a top, top player and he’s a fantastic representation of our football club and his family.”

Fernandes remarked, “Obviously, thanks to everyone from day one. All the assists, all the goals, all the penalties that you guys you gave me the chance to score.”

“I’m very happy and proud to achieve this big number. It wasn’t something I was dreaming about when I grew up to become a footballer.”

“But, obviously, it’s a privilege for me and I hope that, together with this, we can put a lot of trophies in the cabinet because that is what matters most.”

United are back in action on Saturday when they take on Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.
