Manchester United have reportedly earmarked another priority signing as the club begins preparations for the January transfer window.
United eyeing further additions
During the summer, United geared most of their efforts towards bolstering their attacking department after a 2024/25 campaign in which regularly scoring goals proved to be a problem.
United secured the services of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko. The club also brought in youngster Diego Leon but that agreement was struck in January.
On deadline day, United confirmed the arrival of goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp.
United neglected to address their midfield, a deficiency that has already stood out as a major concern this term. A swoop for Brighton’s Carlos Baleba was explored but United abandoned their pursuit after learning of the Cameroonian’s prohibitive asking price.
It’s believed that strengthening the middle of the park is the Red Devils’ top priority in January, when the winter window commences.
Baleba remains the dream target but there have also been links to Conor Gallagher (Atletico Madrid), Lucien Agoume (Sevilla) and Yehor Yarmoluk (Brentford), just to mention a few names.
Now, TEAMtalk reveal that United have earmarked the right-wing-back position is another area of the pitch that is urgent need of being addressed.
United identify new priority signing
The news outlet claims, “Man Utd’s recruitment team are beginning to draw up potential names for the right wing back position as they explore how to strengthen Ruben Amorim’s squad in the months ahead.”
“There is also a growing sense from sources close to Old Trafford that Man Utd could look to add depth and competition at wing back if the right deal presents itself.”
“The club’s recruitment staff have been assessing the balance of Amorim’s set-up all year and there is recognition that an additional option in wide defensive area could be useful to the system.”
There is an acceptance that United will probably have more options in the summer but they’re not ruling out making a move if an irresistible market opportunity arises.
TEAMtalk explain that any deal must make both financial and sporting sense for United. The club will not panic or overpay for players.
