Manchester United and Chelsea have reached a full agreement over a transfer for Alejandro Garnacho, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed.
Heading into the summer transfer window, it became crystal clear that Garnacho was no longer wanted at United following his bitter falling out with Ruben Amorim towards the end of last season.
Angered by Amorim’s decision to name him on the bench for the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, Garnacho publicly slammed the head coach’s decision while labelling the club’s 2024/25 season s–t. The forward also cast doubts over his long-term future.
Garnacho did not travel with the team for pre-season and was not named in any of Amorim’s matchday squads against Arsenal, Fulham and Grimsby Town.
Talks between United and Chelsea have been going on for weeks now to try and reach an agreement that worked for all parties and now, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that a compromise has been found.
Garnacho is poised to become the latest addition to the ranks at Stamford Bridge.
Romano wrote on X, “BREAKING: Alejandro Garnacho to Chelsea, here we go! Deal done between Chelsea and Manchester United.”
“Garnacho only wanted Chelsea and will sign seven year deal at the club for fee close to £40m package.”
“Story from July, confirmed.”

David Ornstein of The Athletic has pointed out that the £40m is a fixed fee, guaranteeing United the full amount with no add-ons attached.
The Red Devils will also retain a 10% sell-on clause, which will enable them to benefit massively from any future sale of the Carrington academy graduate.
