Player sales in Italy set to end wantaway United winger’s Old Trafford nightmare – report

Manchester United’s performance in the transfer market over the last decade has been littered with costly mistakes which has left INEOS and Ruben Amorim hamstrung in this summer’s window.

Multiple high profile errors have been made in recent times with regards to signings and perhaps none more so than English winger Jadon Sancho, who was bought from Dortmund in 2021, for a fee of £73 million.

Since his arrival, Sancho has done little to justify the hefty outlay, spending last season on loan with Premier League rivals Chelsea and leaving United desperate to get him off the books permanently this summer.

However, due to his astronomical wages, finding a buyer for the 25-year-old has proved challenging. But an end to the nightmare relationship might now be in sight thanks to Serie A giants, Juventus.

Juve are keen to offer Sancho a way out of Old Trafford and have made him a priority target in the window.

Player sales required to fund deal

However, as with many clubs across Europe, funds are tight in Turin and Igor Tudor is needing to push through a couple of player sales before tying up the Sancho deal.

With this in mind, and as reported by local media, Belgian winger Samuel Mbangula is expected to complete his move to Werder Bremen in the coming days to free up space in the squad and net the Italians over €10 million after bonuses.

Additionally, Timothy Weah is seemingly on his way to Ligue 1, with Roberto de Zerbi ready to make him the newest addition to his squad in Marseille, on a loan deal with an obligatory €15 million fee to make the move permanent.

The combined fees should give Juve the ammunition to pull the trigger on the deal for Sancho who has given his word to the Serie A club that he will be joining as soon as United give the green light.

United holding out for asking price

Despite the willingness from all parties to get the deal done, United are demanding a £25 million fee for Sancho with Juve unhappy to spend over £20 million on the wantaway winger.

Juve will be hoping United’s need to get Sancho off the books will lead to them bending on their asking price but INEOS are expected to hold firm in their demands.

The former Dortmund man will be cutting his wages in half to secure the move and there does seem enthusiasm on both sides to find a compromise on the fee.

It’s expected the two clubs will continue negotiations this week in the hope of getting a deal agreed by the end of this month, leaving United able to finally draw a line under one of the worst transfers in the club’s history.
