Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim says discussions are taking place every day, with a view to planning for the 2025/26 season.
While the stirring and unbelievable comeback against Lyon still gives the Reds the chance of Europa League glory, and salvaging something from the campaign, the disappointing, if undeserved, home defeat to Wolves provided another reality check.
The Black Country side drew level with United in the table on points, as a result, and, while the focus is understandably largely on the two upcoming semi-final dates with Athletic Club in May, the league form continues to be a concern.
Amorim was clearly unhappy after Pablo Sarabia’s free-kick settled Sunday’s Old Trafford encounter and consistently pointed to missing chances as the team’s biggest problem.
During his post-match interviews with the official broadcasters, he was asked if he would receive the support required during the summer transfer window to strengthen the squad.
Ruben was in no doubt that the required improvements will be able to take place.
“We will see everything,” said the boss. “We have to look at everything, our squad and what we need to improve, the opportunities that we have on the market.
“We have everything [under discussion]. We talked about that [financial backing]. We talk every day about the next season.
“So we are doing everything with time. We will get the effort we need to improve the team.”
There is time to reflect and recharge as our next assignment is not until next Sunday’s Premier League clash at Bournemouth, who still have designs on reaching Europe next term after a draw at Crystal Palace last time out ensured a highest-ever points tally in the Premier League for the Cherries.
The following Thursday, 1 May, a huge clash at San Mames awaits as we take on Athletic Club in the Europa League semi-final first leg.
United will want some momentum going into a game against one of the top sides in La Liga but the planning for next season looks sure to continue unabated, away from the on-field matters.
