Manchester United have confirmed that Geyse has completed a loan move to US side Gotham FC.
United announced on Monday afternoon, “The switch has been agreed for the Brazilian to head to the United States for the full NWSL season, which runs until November.”
“Everybody at United would like to wish Geyse the very best of luck for her time at Gotham.”
Matt Johnson, United’s interim head of women’s football said, “The loan deal is important to Geyse as we continue to have her wellbeing at the centre of our decision-making. We wish her well with Gotham.”
Gotham also confirmed the transfer, further indicating that the deal contains an option to make the transfer a permanent one.
Reacting to the switch, Geyse remarked, “I am very happy and excited to join Gotham FC for this season. I chose Gotham FC because they have a winning profile and a lot of ambition to win titles. I can’t wait to wear this jersey and enjoy the field with my new teammates. Let’s go Gotham!”
Yael Averbuch West, the general manager and head of soccer operations for Gotham, pointed out, “Geyse is a dynamic player who brings valuable experience at both the club and international levels.”
“We’re excited to welcome her to Gotham FC and look forward to seeing her impact on the field.”
This development comes just weeks after Geyse took to social media to say that being at United left her with an “agonizing and lonely feeling.”
The Brazilian’s agent subsequently accused the Reds of trying to loan her out to NWSL outfits while she attended the funeral of her brother.
It’s understood that this led to a breakdown in Geyse’s relationship with manager Marc Skinner, who previously refused to be drawn into addressing the situation at length.
Geyse joined United in 2023 for a club-record fee from Barcelona. She made 27 total appearances for United, registering two goals and four assists. She has scored eight goals in 56 appearances for Brazil and was part of the squads for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the 2021 Summer Olympics.
