United supporters group have “major concern” over Ineos’ latest deeply unpopular decision – report

The Manchester United Supporters’ Trust (MUST) have hit back at the club’s decision to raise ticket prices again next season.

The owners have already come under significant fire for raising ticket prices to £66 this season.

United supporters have already joined forces with rivals fans to protest the move and in a recent survey 97% of fans think these ticket hikes will alienate future generations of supporters.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has repeatedly defended the situation and confirmed that prices would even continue to rise next year.

Consequently, it was announced yesterday by the club that prices would increase as all categories are to suffer a rise of around £2.50 per game, except under-16s, where prices will be frozen.

MUST’s statement, carried by The Manchester Evening News, claimed that the increase is “less than many feared” but they are still “disappointed” by the call.

“For several months we have argued long and hard that the club need to look at the big picture and freeze ticket prices for next season.”

“Other clubs have done that already and at United it would have sent a powerful message about the need for everyone to pull together to get the club out of the very difficult position it finds itself in.”

They did admit that even though there was an increase, they believe the pressure put on the club though different protests and the media has ultimately forced them into a smaller rise than they probably previously planned.

MUST also commented that they were uncomfortable with the hikes in prices for non-season ticket holders for higher-demand games and they “call for a strict cap on the number of games that will be placed in the higher price categories.”

They described the whole categorisation model as a “major concern”.

“We also need to work to understand the detailed impacts of the seat moves and terms and conditions changes being made. In particular, we fail to see any justification for the increase in season ticket holder minimum usage requirement.”

They also claimed that any current changes need to be carried out with the “full consultation of those affected”.
