Manchester United loanee Jadon Sancho made his negative feelings about his home club known in a comment on Marcus Rashford’s first Instagram post after featuring for Aston Villa.
Rashford joined the Villans on loan at the start of the month, and played his first minutes in claret and blue in their FA Cup clash with Tottenham Hotspur yesterday.
The 27-year-old came off the bench to play 24 minutes as he helped Unai Emery’s side see out a 2-1 victory over Spurs to progress into the next round.
After the game, Rashford posted a picture of himself on Instagram captioned “Thank you for the warm welcome. Great performance.”
Unsurprisingly, the post garnered plenty of attention, with Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez leaving a comment to welcome the player to the club.
Sancho, however, took the opportunity to stick the boot in to the Red Devils with a one-word comment simply reading “Freedom”.
Sancho endured a torrid time at Old Trafford after his much-anticipated £72m move from Borussia Dortmund in 2021.
He managed 12 goals in 87 appearances at the club before being frozen out by Erik ten Hag, who suggested the player wasn’t grafting as he would like.
It wasn’t a particularly controversial call, and after an impressive loan move back to Dortmund for the second half of last season, in the summer Sancho moved to Chelsea on loan with an obligation to buy.
He has struggled for consistency at Stamford Bridge, scoring twice and providing six assists in 21 games while at the same time frustrating Blues fans with some lacklustre performances.
Despite kicking off as a fairytale, Rashford’s United career is slowly heading in a similar direction after he went over two months without a game in red.
Ruben Amorim cast doubt on his performances in training, and an exit seems best for all parties. Villa have an option to make the Englishman’s loan permanent at the end of the season.
