Manchester United target Sam Tickle has spoken out on recent rumours linking him with a move to Old Trafford.
The Red Devils have had a terrible season to date and will need significant strengthening in the summer.
One problematic position is that of goalkeeper, as Andre Onana’s form has fallen off a cliff with a series of high-profile mistakes in the worst possible moments, like in the home defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion last month.
Second-choice keeper Altay Bayindir has been more impressive, including putting in a wonderful display in the last round of the FA Cup, stopping a penalty in normal time and also one in the penalty shootout versus Arsenal.
But he has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford with Galatasaray reportedly interested in his services.
United have therefore been linked to different goalkeepers such as Illan Meslier and Zion Suzuki.
Wigan Athletic’s Sam Tickle is another keeper who is reportedly on United’s radar and he has spoken out on the rumours.
The Daily Mail report that “Tickle’s exploits have not gone unnoticed, with Birmingham, Sunderland, Preston and Everton among the clubs touted with an interest, while some reports have claimed Man United and Arsenal are eyeing up a move.”
The keeper, who boasts a 77% percent save percentage and is regarded as one of Wigan’s best-ever academy products, has also recently commented on speculation linking him with a move away from the Brick Community Stadium.
“It’s nice to see your name linked but it doesn’t impact me. As long as I get to play football, I’m happy.”
The 22 year old did admit that he has sympathies for the Red Devils and claimed, “I’m a Man United fan but I’ve been at the club so long that I’m a Wigan fan now.”
The goalkeeper also recounted his side’s match against United in January 2024 in the FA Cup and recalled, “I got (Andre) Onana’s shirt and I spoke to Tom Heaton for a bit so it was a special occasion, especially for me and my dad because he’s a United fan as well.”
