“You’ve got to just scream:” retired United star explains exactly what’s blocking the club’s success

Former Manchester United player Paul Parker has revealed what he believes will get the club back on the right track for the future.

When new Man United manager Ruben Amorim took over from Erik ten Hag earlier this season, fans rediscovered much of the hope they had lost for their beloved club during the Dutchman’s reign.

Unfortunately, life would be far from easy for the new manager, who has thus far achieved mixed results during his time in charge.

While new signing Patrick Dorgu impressed during United’s 2-1 FA Cup win over Leicester City, it was yet another unconvincing performance from Amorim’s team, who only netted the winner three minutes into second-half stoppage time.

In addition, even as they proceed in their FA Cup and UEFA Europa League journeys, the team has continued to struggle in the Premier League, slumping to 13th place.

In Parker’s eyes, the club will only get back on the road to recovery once it overcomes one enormous core issue.

“I don’t think anything is going to work at Manchester United until 80 per cent of the current players are gone,” Parker admitted to TEAMtalk.

“You can’t keep patting a dog on the head if it’s not listening to you – at one point, you’ve got to just scream if it’s not been disciplined enough. That’s what’s happening in this moment in time at the club.”

Parker then singled out defender Harry Maguire in particular during his scathing assessment of the situation at Old Trafford.

“I look at Harry Maguire getting the option on his contract taken up by the club – all you’re doing is just giving another 12 months to what’s been going on for the last eight years.”

“It just didn’t make any sense to me. If Maguire had left, then maybe Manchester United wouldn’t have had to have sacked those poor members of staff who have been at the club for years and years!” Parker concluded.

Parker’s comments come after another round of sackings performed by INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe. The beloved head of team operations, Jackie Kay, emerged as the latest casualty earlier this week.

Whether or not Parker is right, Amorim has little room for movement at present, particularly after the close of a fairly quiet winter transfer window. It seems that the United manager will need to get the most out of the existing players at his disposal if he hopes to turn the club’s fortunes around.
