Leny Yoro’s encouraging debut was a clear positive from the 2-0 defeat at Arsenal on Wednesday.

The centre-back made a stylish introduction to the Premier League, despite the circumstances and fact he is being treated carefully after suffering a metatarsal injury in a pre-season encounter with the Gunners.

A couple of eye-catching moments quickly endeared him to the travelling fans, and it is quite apparent that the 19-year-old has extraordinary potential.

With a system utilising three at the back, the former Lille youngster’s availability will be a real boost for the head coach.

“Of course, Leny Yoro, you can feel the talent,” Amorim told talkSPORT after the loss at the Emirates Stadium.

“The speed, the way he handled one against one, in a very difficult stadium.

“[After] a lot of time without playing, you can see the quality.”

While Yoro made his debut, Godwill Kukonki was named in a matchday squad for the first time.

The 16-year-old Academy defender has been promoted by Amorim, after training with the senior squad at Carrington. With Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof unavailable, he will have been thrilled to get the opportunity.

“He’s 16,” said the boss to MUTV. “But he impressed me a lot, so it’s also a sign to the youth players that they can be here.

“If something happened with the first-team squad, they have to step up and I think he’s ready, he’s very adult to handle the demands of the Premier League.”

Godwill Kukonki is only 16 but has caught Ruben Amorim’s eye.

Martinez is back from suspension for Saturday’s teatime kick-off against Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford.

Yoro’s minutes are being managed but he could enjoy a maiden outing at the Theatre of Dreams, and allow the home supporters a chance to see him in action.

Kukonki may get a runout at the stadium in next Tuesday’s UEFA Youth League second-leg tie with AZ Alkmaar, with tickets still available.
