“You’d Probably Take That” – Teddy Sheringham Names The 2 PL Stars He Would Sign To Replace Bruno Fernandes

BACK David Tully Apr 13th 2026 Man Utd legend Teddy Sheringham thinks captain Bruno Fernandes’s sale this summer could help fund moves for Nottingham Forest duo Elliot Anderson and Morgan Gibbs-White. The Red Devils have been linked with both midfielders, and speaking to BestBettingSites, Sheringham said the proceeds from Fernandes’s sale would be put to good use by purchasing the pair: “It’d be interesting. If you get good money for him, you could maybe buy two players coming into their prime.” “I don’t know what they’d get for Fernandes, but if you could get Anderson and half of Gibbs-White, you’d probably take that.” Fernandes’s sale wouldn’t be enough to buy Anderson It has been reported that the United captain does have a release clause in his contract that allows him to leave if a foreign club pays €65m (£57m). If Fernandes decides that he wants a new challenge and moves abroad, the money raised from his exit would not be sufficient to buy one, let alone both Anderson and Gibbs-White. Anderson’s asking price is said to be in the range of £90m to £100m. Could Man Utd offer Fernandes a new contract instead? The Portuguese international has just over a year remaining on his current deal, although the Red Devils do have the option to extend his stay for another twelve months if they so wish. Triggering that clause would, however, not get rid of the buyout fee, so if United want to ensure they keep Fernandes beyond this summer, they may have to offer him a new deal. Previous reports have suggested that the 31-year-old would demand a sizeable increase on his current salary, and with INEOS keen on cutting the wage bill, it seems unlikely that such a lucrative proposal would be offered to the club’s talisman.
