Women’s Supporters’ Club reaches 1000 members

Six years since formation, United’s official women’s supporters’ club (MUWSC) continues to grow, and is now a 1000-strong community of Reds dedicated to supporting the United women’s team.
Founded in 2018 and self-styled as the “MUWFC Barmy Army”, MUWSC was formed within the stands at Leigh Sports Village and became the first official Manchester United Women’s Supporters’ Club in October 2022.
This 1000-member achievement reflects the continued growth of the women’s game, with United Women recently setting a new attendance record of 8,348 for the WSL draw with Arsenal at Leigh Sports Village in November.
“We couldn’t have imagined that what started out as a group of fans congregating at the back of West Stand at Leigh Sports Village would grow into what we have become today,” comments Shane Higgs, treasurer of MUWSC.
The women’s supporters’ club, widely known for their atmosphere, can be seen by their player flags and heard by their player chants from the North Stand terraces at Leigh Sports Village and at every away fixture.
MUWSC is part of United’s global family of 321 supporters’ clubs affiliated to Manchester United, which enables Reds to get closer to the club than ever before. From fan press conferences, exclusive meet and greet opportunities, Warm-Up supporter events, the women’s supporters’ club even joined us on our Winter training camp to Malta last season!
Shane adds: “One thousand members is testament to the hard work put in by all those who have been involved over the past six years. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to lend a hand, to those who have put in countless hours around their personal lives, to the club staff who have engaged with us and supported our growth, and most importantly, to our 1000+ members for six years of trust, support and allowing us to represent you.”
Rick McGagh, director of fan engagement, said: “We have the best fans in the WSL and the support they give to the team is hugely appreciated by the players and manager. We congratulate MUWSC on reaching this fantastic milestone and look forward to continuing to work with them and support their growth and reward their members in the future.”
