Wolves loss causes Amorim to reach humiliating milestone quicker than “any United manager in PL history”

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim’s difficult start to life at his new club continued as his side lost 2-0 to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

A team that started the day in the relegation zone, Wolves completely dominated Amorim’s side after Bruno Fernandes was sent off for his second bookable offence.

Following the humiliating result, United dropped into 14th place in the Premier League standings, with eight losses overshadowing just six wins.

Unfortunately for Amorim, his misfortune didn’t end there. He also broke a record that no United manager would want to get near to.

“His horror start has seen him lose four Premier League matches in the fewest amount of games, reaching the fourth defeat in just his seventh league match in charge – quicker than any United manager in Premier League history,” talkSPORT noted.

In addition to being the first United head coach with four losses in his first seven league games, Amorim has lost five of his 10 matches in all competitions.

In fact, Southampton are the only club to lose more matches in the past seven games with Premier League sides than United.

When comparing Amorim’s performance to that of his predecessor, Erik ten Hag, it becomes clear that while the Portuguese manager’s attacking performances have been better, his Dutch counterpart was more successful at the back.

Ten Hag’s defensive stats have been better than Amorim’s at large, with United averaging more tackles, interceptions, and possession wins in the final third under the former Ajax man.

What’s more, the team was conceding fewer goals per game under Ten Hag.

Still, many pundits and fans alike have realised that the problem at Old Trafford is much bigger than the club’s new manager and that blame cannot be placed directly on his shoulders alone.

Former United chief scout Mick Brown claimed that the club;s recently poor recruitment is at the heart of Amorim’s problems, given the limited talent he has to work with.

Unfortunately, it is believed that Amorim is set to receive a tighter transfer budget than Ten Hag, leaving him with little room to operate.

Ultimately, it appears as if Amorim’s ambition to rebuild United into a formidable force will require a lot of patience from the club’s fanbase.
