Why Maya is so excited for our new signings

United’s 2025/26 Women’s Super League campaign gets under way at home to Leicester this Sunday, and captain Maya Le Tissier is particularly excited for our summer signings.

Inside Sunday’s jam-packed matchday programme, Le Tissier says she is looking forward to Julia Zigiotti Olme, Fridolina Rolfo and Jess Park having the opportunity to understand how “fantastic” our fanbase is, and how important their backing has become particularly in games at the team’s primary home of Leigh Sports Village.

It’s where Sunday’s 12:00 BST kick-off against the Foxes takes place and where Le Tissier and co lost just once in the WSL last season, to eventual champions Chelsea.

Involved or not, it will be our new trio’s first chance since joining us to experience a competitive matchday at the stadium, a venue that has historically been described as feeling like a ‘fortress’ by the team’s players and staff.

The connection and closeness between those on the pitch and in the stands is a big reason for that, and something Maya has no doubt missed since the team played its last game in Leigh – over four months ago!

“We’re so excited to be back at Leigh Sports Village for our first WSL game of the season,” she begins in her ‘Captain’s Column’, which features inside Sunday’s matchday programme.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome our new players to the squad, and I hope they all have a successful time here.

“Our summer signings have settled in well and it’s always fantastic to have new talent within the squad and see the experience they bring. I’m looking forward to them seeing just how important LSV is to us.

“We are really proud of our home, and our record here is so strong. I’m excited for them to understand how fantastic our fanbase is and hear just how loud you can get.

“They had a small insight into that in Stockholm but now they’ll get to witness our home first hand.”

Maya goes on to share an insight into pre-season and the mood in the camp after our two season-opening Champions League wins in Stockholm, where United’s fans travelled in great numbers and made an impact from the stands. The skipper then signs off with a message to those supporters who journeyed out to Sweden.

You can read the full column by picking up a printed copy of Sunday’s matchday programme, available on the day at Leigh Sports Village for just £3.

WHAT ELSE IS INSIDE THE PROGRAMME?

Head coach Marc Skinner sets the tone for our campaign in his first programme notes of the season, before a bumper season preview that will get you well and truly in 2025/26 mode as the new term kicks off.

There’s also exclusive interviews with Dominique Janssen and Millie Turner – find out why Dom only looks at her phone for 20 minutes a day and the most unlikely place that Millie has been recognised.

Elsewhere, there’s a player-by-player guide to our ’25/26 squad, along with a comprehensive opposition section on Leicester, the usual kids’ and quiz features, plus plenty more besides.
