Manchester United finished the season on a positive note, by beating 10-man Aston Villa 2-0 at Old Trafford.
After keeper Emiliano Martinez was sent off for bringing down Rasmus Hojlund, the visitors were aggrieved to see a Morgan Rogers effort disallowed for a foul on Altay Bayindir, soon before deservedly falling behind to Amad’s headed opener.
Christian Eriksen sealed the three points with a penalty to ensure Ruben Amorim’s Reds finish in 15th spot in the Premier League table and there were several contenders for our Man-of-the-Match award.
Our fans voted in big numbers and you decided it was a very close duel between two of the main protagonists.
In the end, Bruno Fernandes came out narrowly on top with 39 per cent, just reward for an excellent display by our Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year. The skipper crossed beautifully for Amad to nod the opener and had a number of shots as the Reds controlled proceedings throughout.
Although he passed up the opportunity to score his 99th goal for the club, allowing Eriksen to take the spot-kick, this was clearly another classy gesture from the much-respected captain.
This is the 13th time Fernandes has won the star-man award in a Reds game this season, handed out when the team wins or draws, which is nine more than his closest team-mate, Amad.
The Ivory Coast international finished one per cent behind Bruno on Sunday in the voting, as he not only scored, but also earned the penalty when his heel was caught by Ian Maatsen inside the penalty area, with three minutes of normal time remaining.
Casemiro finished in third spot (7%), narrowly ahead of the departing Eriksen.
