Who is our Player of the Month for April?

Who is your choice for Manchester United’s Player of the Month for April?

Ruben Amorim’s Reds achieved the prime objective of reaching the last four of the Europa League, thanks to the unforgettable victory over Lyon, and that emotional night at Old Trafford for the second leg has had a bearing on the selection of the shortlist.

We have opted for four names for the penultimate monthly award of 2024/25, to pay respect to that heroic comeback at the Theatre of Dreams.

It’s fair to say the domestic results were disappointing over this period but there was still plenty to admire and allow us to promote these candidates for the trophy.

Check out the summaries and then please cast your vote, with the winner due to be announced on Thursday morning…

Who was United’s Player of the Month in April?

CASEMIRO: 5 apps / 2 assists

The Brazilian has become a key member of the side again, under Ruben Amorim, and was excellent in the draw with Manchester City at the start of the month. He made an incredible 11 tackles in the derby and was second in the Man-of-the-Match voting.

The 33-year-old helped United record a positive result, a 2-2 draw in Lyon, but came to the fore in the return when the chips were down. He was fouled inside the box to earn us a lifeline, as Bruno Fernandes converted the penalty, and then provided assists for both goals to turn the tie around in the dying moments. A cute pass allowed Kobbie Mainoo to level things at 4-4, before a flighted cross was met perfectly by Harry Maguire for the winner.

Although being treated carefully by the boss, his leadership credentials are clear for all to see.

BRUNO FERNANDES: 6 (1) apps / 1 goal / 1 assist

The skipper continues to be an effervescent driving force for the team, as he bids to win a third successive Player of the Month prize to enhance his claims for the coveted Sir Matt Busby trophy at the end of the season.

Even though he was rested for the start of the defeat to Wolves, a rare occurrence for our no.8, he been the chief creative influence and, as mentioned, retained his composure from the spot to effectively keep us alive in the Europa League.

In the first leg of the Lyon tie, it was his delicious cross that yielded Joshua Zirkzee’s headed goal.

He was voted our Man of the Match, by the fans, in the games against Manchester City, Lyon and Bournemouth, where he was unlucky not to score on Sunday with an effort that flew inches wide, seconds before Rasmus Hojlund’s equaliser.

Only the woodworked denied Bruno Fernandes a sensational volleyed goal against Lyon.

HARRY MAGUIRE: 4 (1) apps / 1 goal / 1 assist

Although he only started four games in this spell, plus a couple of minutes at the end of the Nottingham Forest defeat, the centre-back is impossible to leave out.

Even going up front in the closing stages at The City Ground, he showed his prowess in the opposing penalty box, and was unlucky not to level on a couple of occasions.

He then helped shut out Manchester City but it was the Lyon game in which his input will be remembered forever. The defender had already played the ball through for Diogo Dalot to score in the first half of normal time but he really came up trumps just when it was needed most. Powering home Casemiro’s cross in stoppage time, Harry blew the roof off Old Trafford and ensured hero status among the supporters.

Have you watched this goal as many times as we have?

LENY YORO: 5 (1) apps / 1 goal

It is easy to forget the Frenchman is still a teenager and April marked his first goal in a Reds shirt, pulling it back to 1-1 in Lyon with a crucial strike in the context of the contest.

He was unfortunate to narrowly miss out on the Man-of-the-Match award in that tie, with Fernandes just pipping it to him, and there have been a number of eye-catching moments, as he is looking more and more confident when gliding out of defence with the ball.

The defender was assured in the 0-0 draw with Manchester City, put his body on the line in the home leg against Lyon, and is really starting to show why the Reds bought him from Lille in the summer.
