Which young star’s celebration is Amad copying?

As Amad’s 2024 draws to a close, he has much to reflect on, before looking ahead to what should be an exciting new year for the Ivorian.

In an exclusive major feature for the latest edition of Inside United, the official club magazine, our no.16 looked back on his journey to becoming one of the most talked about young players in the game.

By viewing poster-sized images of some of the key moments of his career, the 22-year-old was able to visualise these experiences and bring detailed recollections of just what he was feeling at the time.

Amad wheeled out the celebration against PAOK.

One of the shots chosen was of him celebrating one of his two goals against PAOK in the Europa League, during Ruud van Nistelrooy’s interim spell in charge.

Amad was quick to pay credit to another highly rated individual for providing the inspiration behind it, somebody who represents another of the biggest clubs in football.

“Yeah, this celebration,” he told us. “I saw this first with Arda Guler, who plays for Real Madrid. I tried to do the same celebration because I like [it]. This was the game against PAOK in the Europa League where I scored two goals, we won in Europe after one year [of not getting a victory], so it meant a lot for me and the team.

“I like to score, and this happening in the Europa League, I was just happy. I want to make history for this club.”

When asked if he admired the Turkey teenager for his ability as well, Amad was in no doubt.

“Yeah, I like him,” he smiled. “He’s a good guy, a good young player. A top player who plays for Real Madrid, one of the best right now in the world.

“So, I saw his celebration, so I tried to copy him because I like his celebration. Maybe the next goal, I don’t do the same or maybe I do my celebration. But, right now, I’m doing this!”

Guler joined Real from Fenerbahce in 2023 and was one of the breakout stars of the last European Championship.

Amad, voted the MUDSA Player of the Year for 2024, will be looking to help lift the Reds in our Boxing Day encounter at Wolves.
