What Amad told MUTV after derby-day heroics

Amad’s determination to succeed and delight at a dramatic derby-day victory were both evident in equal measure during his post-match debrief with MUTV at the Etihad Stadium.
The Ivorian had a beaming smile on his face as he joined Zarah Connolly for a chat in the tunnel, after playing a starring role in United’s epic 2-1 triumph over Manchester City on Sunday.
His tireless work rate saw him win the penalty that got us back on level terms two minutes from the end of normal time, before he ensured United would take all three points on the short journey back across town this evening, with a masterful 90th-minute winner.
“I’m feeling very good, very nice,” our no.16 said in his MUTV interview, which you can watch above, shortly after coming off the pitch.
“Winning against City, a derby like this, away against them who are one of the best teams in the world, you can have only good feeling. I’m so happy.
“Today, we knew it was not easy, but this is a derby, if you want to win you have to be angrier than them and we showed that. We were angry and we are happy to win the game.”
The forward has enjoyed a sustained spell of impressive form since Ruben Amorim’s arrival as our head coach in November, and a commendable season overall, which now includes four goals and six assists for the Reds.
His off-the-ball work and ability to play in different positions – having featured as both a wing-back and an attacking midfielder under Amorim – has arguably been just as important in recent weeks, and you can tell that he is relishing the responsibility that he is being trusted with.
“I am following the manager’s system. He’s demanding a lot of pressing and when I have to press, I go 100 per cent and I don’t care who is there, who is not there,” Amad added.
“I was happy to win the first penalty. I tried to shoot but I was maybe a little bit smart to say the defender was coming, and he touched my legs, [so it was a] penalty.
“The second one, we know Licha [Lisandro Martinez] is a good player to give you this ball. In the beginning, I didn’t believe in the ball because it was going too quick, but I touched the ball and I score.
“I was so happy to score against City and so happy to win this game. I want to enjoy this moment today and then let’s focus for the next game.”
The scenes that followed Amad’s winner on the pitch, in the dugout and the away end at the Etihad Stadium were incredible and although everyone of a United persuasion in enemy territory enjoyed every last bit of them, our forward admits there is a part of him that wishes such a goal had been scored at Old Trafford – so that even more Reds could enjoy it in the flesh!
“I would have preferred to celebrate this one at Old Trafford with a lot of fans, but I just celebrated like when I score every time,” he joked with MUTV.
“This is not a disrespect to City fans, I just wanted to celebrate my goals. I’m a chill guy, I just want to celebrate.”
