Lecce president Sticchi Damiani has revealed crucial details of Tuesday’s meeting with Manchester United over the signing of Patrick Dorgu.
Dorgu has emerged as United’s top target for the left-wing-back position. David Ornstein of The Athletic revealed that United were in talks with Lecce over a January deal for the Denmark international.
Napoli have also been credited with an interest in Dorgu but the player is believed to be keen on a switch to Old Trafford.
United officials jetted to Italy to try and strike an agreement with Lecce but it appears the two sides are still apart in terms of their valuation of the player.
A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United are not willing to go any higher than €30m plus an additional €5m in bonuses. Lecce want a higher sum than this to close the sale. It’s understood that they are waiting for United to lodge a bigger bid.
Lecce president Sticchi Damiani, who was in the meeting with United executives, spoke to Sky Sports Italy after the match and emphasised that they want to keep Dorgu at least until the end of the season – sentiments that were shared with United.
Damiani remarked, “The meeting went well, it was a cordial meeting. For us it is a satisfaction to sit at the table with Manchester United and talk about a player who comes from our Spring.”
“It means that it is a remarkable growth path for the club and that we are very happy about.”
“We explained to Manchester that our will at the moment is to try to keep our squad unchanged, retaining all the big ones, especially Dorgu.”
“We tried to make it clear that for us it is an important appointment with the storai this year. We could reach the third historic salvation.”
“Despite being flattered by Manchester’s offer, for us the priority is the sporting result which is fundamental.”
Lecce are currently in 17th place in the Serie A standings and just a point above the relegation zone.
