Manchester United play Hong Kong, China at the Hong Kong Stadium on Friday 30 May.

Kick-off is set for 13:00 BST (20:00 local time), in the second of the Reds’ two post-season tour games in south-east Asia.

Despite a disappointing defeat to the ASEAN All-Stars at Malaysia’s Bukit Jalil Stadium on Wednesday, Ruben Amorim is confident fans will be out in force to support the team, on our first visit since 2013.

“If you can afford it – that is the important thing – then you support your club,” said Amorim. “I have my club as a young kid in Portugal. No matter what the situation was, I was there – and I suffered a lot, in Benfica in the ‘90s.

“It was a struggle, a lot, but I never stopped buying tickets and [for] my father it was a gift in my birthday.

“So it’s going to be the same [in Hong Kong]. These people believe in Manchester United, no matter what the context. It’s our job, it’s our duty to improve the team and to improve the next season.”

HOW TO WATCH

We’ll once again be broadcasting the match live and exclusive to MUTV subscribers.

Match Day Live begins at 12:00 BST, one hour before kick-off, so join us for all the best build-up from pitchside.

The United App is your go-to second screen for the encounter, as we’ll be providing text commentary, images and analysis via the team in Hong Kong.

WHAT’S THE TEAM NEWS?

Amorim used 27 of his 32-man squad in Kuala Lumpur, although nobody played for longer than 45 minutes.

Altay Bayindir was an unused substitute, so could be a candidate to start, while four players were not involved at all.

Matthijs de Ligt, Mason Mount, Luke Shaw and Joshua Zirkzee watched from the sidelines, as Amorim later admitted a key priority was ensuring nobody picks up an injury that jeopardises the start of next season.

The boss said that Shaw would not play in Hong Kong either, while Diogo Dalot, Harry Maguire and Andre Onana have travelled to India to engage with fans and partners.

This was a rare opportunity for a group of Manchester United players to visit India while we are in the region and one the Reds have now exercised.

WHO ARE THE OPPOSITION?

Hong Kong, China is the region’s representative team in international football.

They are coached by Ashley Westwood, who started his career in United’s Academy, before representing the likes of Bradford City, Sheffield Wednesday and Wrexham. He has since gone on to manage several sides in India, and the Afghanistan national team.

Our opposition have named a 24-man squad for the friendly fixture, mostly consisting of players contracted to clubs in China and Hong Kong.

They took part in the 2023 Asian Cup in Qatar, qualifying for that tournament for the first time since 1968. However three group-stage defeats led to an early exit.

PREVIOUSLY IN HONG KONG

United last played in the region back in 2013, defeating local side Kitchee 5-2 at the Hong Kong Stadium – Friday’s venue.

Danny Welbeck, Chris Smalling, Fabio, Adnan Januzaj and Jesse Lingard all scored to ensure our tour of Asia under David Moyes ended on a winning note.

We’ve visited Hong Kong on several occasions previous to that, including in 2005 when goals from Giuseppe Rossi and Dong Fangzhou defeated our upcoming opponents.
