Video: United youngster delivers stunning assist to secure his loan side promotion to League One

A number of Manchester United stars were in action for the loan clubs on Saturday, from the Premier League all the way to League 2.

Here’s a roundup of how these United loanees fared with their respective clubs.

Ethan Ennis (Doncaster Rovers)

Ethan Ennis came on from the bench and played 21 minutes for Doncaster Rovers as they secured a 2-1 victory over Bradford City, securing their promotion to League One.

The win ended a three-season stay for Doncaster in the fourth tier. Goals from Rob Street and Billy Sharp ensured Rovers got one over their Yorkshire rivals.

It was Ennis who assisted Sharp’s winning goal. The United youngster expertly headed the ball into the path of Sharp, who made no mistake as he sent the ball into the back of the net.

During the limited time he was on the pitch, Ennis delivered all six passes he attempted (100% pass accuracy). One was of course a key pass, for Sharp’s strike. Ennis won two of the four ground duels he contested and put in two tackles.

Joe Hugill (Carlisle United)

Meanwhile, it was heartbreak for Joe Hugill and Carlisle United as their relegation was confirmed following a loss at the hands of Cheltenham.

The Cumbrians fell 3-2 at Cheltenham, and with Tranmere beating Crewe at home, the outcome at the EV Charger Points Stadium ultimately didn’t matter.

Carlisle boss and United legend Mark Hughes started Hugill on the bench, only bringing him on for the final minutes of the contest.

Hugill only completed one of the three passes he attempted (33% pass accuracy). He came out on top in two of the three ground duels he vied for. Hugill was required to contest two challenges in the air, and he won one.

Sonny Aljofree (Accrington Stanley)

Sonny Aljofree has been an important part of Accrington Stanley’s squad since arriving in the summer, although an injury earlier in the year slightly disrupted his season.

The defender made his long-awaited last week against Carlisle last week and impressed, so it was no surprise that he was named in Accrington’s starting XI to face Walsall on Saturday.

Aljofree played all 90 minutes as the visitors snatched a 1-0 win, courtesy of a superb Ben Woods volley in the 33rd minute of proceedings.

Aljofree made one clearance and one interception, while also registering five tackles. The 20-year-old was solid at the back, winning five of his eight ground duels and three of seven aerial battles.

He delivered 24 of the 34 passes he attempted  (71% pass accuracy). Aljofree managed to connect with just one of the five long balls he pinged.

It was certainly a top outing for the Plymouth-born footballer.

Rhys Bennett (Fleetwood Town)

Rhys Bennett came on for the final minutes of Fleetwood Town’s 2-0 victory over Newport County at Highbury Stadium.

Second-half strikes from Phoenix Patterson and Zech Medley were all Fleetwood needed to clinch the three points in their final home game of the season.

During the 11 minutes of action that he was afforded, Bennett blocked one shot and made three clearances. He only made four passes and went long on two occasions.

Jadon Sancho (Chelsea)

Jadon Sancho came on for Noni Madueke with 15 minutes remaining as Chelsea held on to their one-goal advantage against Everton.

Sancho completed his only attempted dribble, delivered both of his passes successfully, and won the sole ground duel he contested.
