Video: United star aims subtle dig at section of fans after epic comeback victory against Lyon

Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee hit out at a section of supporters who left Old Trafford just before their pulsating comeback against Lyon.

United were comfortably and cruising with a two-goal lead courtesy of Manuel Ugarte and Diogo Dalot. But Lyon rallied and erased their advantage, with Corentin Tolisso and Nicolas Tagliafico finding the back of the net. Lyon’s second-half strikes forced the game into extra time.

Despite going a man down, the visitors still managed to go ahead, first through Rayan Cherki, who capitalised on some pitiful defending from United and then Alexandre Lacazette, who converted from the penalty spot.

It looked like United were dead and buried, and it was at this point that some fans elected to leave the grounds.

But, there were left to regret their decision as Bruno Fernandes set the comeback in motion, also firing home his penalty, which Casemiro won.

Then Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire saw United turn the game around in stoppage time of extra time to secure United’s spot in the semi-finals of the Europa League, where they will face Athletic Club.

The injured Zirkzee was in attendance at Old Trafford and was seemingly not pleased with the fact that some fans left before the final whistle. The Dutchman took to Instagram and aimed a dig at the supporters who missed out on the epic comeback.

Zirkzee posted a video of the Old Trafford crowd signing alongside the message, “To all the fans who left when we were down. Listen to this.”

The 23-year-old was not the only one who had a subtle dig at some United fans. After the final whistle, Ruben Amorim told TNT Sports that he “felt sorry for the people that had to leave at 4-2.”

Amorim went on to describe the sound in the stadium as one of the best feelings in the world.

Zirkzee has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a hamstring injury but it’s nice to see him still showing up and supporting his teammates.

The Red Devils are back in action on Sunday when they host Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.
