Video: “I take a lot of good memories”: United veteran opens up on emotional farewell, promises to be back in future

Manchester United signed off their dismal campaign with a 2-0 win against Aston Villa on Sunday at Old Trafford. The final day victory means the Red Devils finished 15th in the Premier League.

Second-half goals from Amad and Christian Eriksen ensured the three points, with the Ivorian playing a major role in the second half.

His shift to wingback opened the game up for the hosts, and he scored the opener with a header before winning a penalty for the Dane to convert.

After the game, TNT Sports caught up with the duo, and the 22-year-old quickly apologised to the fans for the season but promised them that they can expect a much better showing next season.

Amad apologises for dreadful season

“We knew this was a tough season for everyone. We’re really sorry for what happened this season. I want to say thanks to the fans and we will come back next season stronger.”

The Denmark international played his last game for the 20-time English league champions and signing off with a goal in front of the Stretford End was a great way to go.

He admitted that skipper Bruno Fernandes opted to hand the spot-kick to the 33-year-old because Sunday was his final game in red.

“Yes, that is correct (his final game). I think that is also why Bruno gave me a penalty as a nice farewell.”

Christian Eriksen also wished the club well and revealed what an honour it was for him to play at Old Trafford for three seasons.

Christian Eriksen bows out on a high

“I think we did it today for the fans. It has been a tough season, but I am going to wish them all the best. It is an incredible stadium, an incredible club and I have no doubt I will be back at some point.

“It has been an exciting few years being in this stadium and playing for this club. I have enjoyed it and I take a lot of good memories with me.”

As for his future, the former Tottenham Hotspur man revealed he is not yet ready to hang up his boots and will decide after a summer break.

“First of all, a holiday and relax, and then the national team. Then I will see what the future holds. I am still fit to play.”

United fans will wish they signed the midfield maestro a few years before, as the team could do with his passing ability. He enjoyed a fine debut season but injuries and age seemed to catch up with him at the end.
