Video: 1 goal, 100% dribble accuracy, 5/6 duels won: United star shines at Women’s Euros once again

Manchester United Women’s Ella Toone once again came up big for England in international football.

The United star famously scored in the final of England’s 2-1 win over Germany in Euro 2022.

She was left on the bench for the Lionesses’ opening day 1-2 defeat to France but she returned to the starting line-up against the Netherlands.

Toone played 75 minutes of the match and easily her biggest contribution was when she added her side’s fourth of the contest.

She collected the ball at the edge of the area, shimmied her way into space and fired a low shot past the Dutch keeper.

Make. It. FOUR! 4️⃣

What a turnaround for the Lionesses!

The United attacker completed 76% of her passes and had one shot off and another on target during her time on the pitch.

Toone completed 100% of her dribble attempts and also won an impressive five of her six ground duels. The 25 year old will hope she has done enough to convince manager, Sarina Wiegman, that she deserves to start England’s crucial last group match against Wales.

Her club teammate Grace Clinton also came on as a substitute, replacing Toone for the final 15 minutes of action.

The game was over as a contest by the time she got the chance to shine, as she only managed 13 touches but did win 100% of her aerial battles.

United’s Dominque Janssen was on the losing side as she played the entire 90 minutes for the Netherlands at the centre of their defence.

She impressed last time out as the Dutch cruised to a 3-0 win over Wales.

Tonight was a much tougher assignment though, as she failed to keep Toone and company quiet.

The 30 year old made three clearances but failed to make any tackles. She made one interception and blocked another shot but in truth, she struggled to contain the English attack.

She did win her only ground duel and both aerial battles but was not as careful in possession as she usually is, completing just 74% of her passes.

Both sides have three points from their opening two games and will be hoping to qualify from the group in their final match on Sunday.

Alex is a huge Manchester United fan, inspired by greats of his homeland such as George Best, Harry Gregg and Norman Whiteside. Proud owner of such niche shirts such as Kleberson, Eric Djemba-Djemba and Gary Neville. Grew up pretending to be Ruud van Nistelrooy and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the back garden, with little success.
