“Very exciting” United loanee helps side complete huge FA Cup giant-killing

Manchester United’s newest loanee Ethan Ennis made his debut for new side Doncaster Rovers against Hull City in the third round of the FA Cup yesterday.

The 20 year old came on after 84 minutes of action and played all of the extra-time period as his side held on for penalties.

He replaced Rob Street and filled in as a midfielder during the match.

The League Two side went ahead in the tie in the 51st minute but were pegged back by their Championship opponents in the 80th minute.

Ennis helped his side hold keep the home side at bay and perform an impressive giant-killing that the third round of the Cup is famous for.

In an enthralling game, Rovers were a penalty away from being knocked out but the shootout quickly turned on its head as Hull missed two in a row and Harry Clifton converted the all-important match-winning spot kick.

After the game Ennis posted on Instagram, “Enjoyable first few days at Doncaster Rovers. Fantastic feeling to make my debut and get through to the next round!”

The academy product will get the chance to prove himself against Premier League opposition in the next round when Doncaster will welcome Crystal Palace to the Eco-Power Stadium.

His new manager Grant McCann has lauded the potential impact Ennis will have at the club and claimed, “yeah, he’s a really good signing for us, we’ve had to fight off lots of competition from clubs higher up the pyramid than us, but Man United have trusted us with his development.”

“He’s a very exciting player, he can play anywhere across the frontline. I think the Doncaster fans can be really excited about Ethan.”

He is certainly ready to test himself at senior level as he has impressed for the under 21s this season, scoring six goals and providing two assists in 12 matches.

Ennis will next be in action when Rovers travel to Gillingham on Saturday lunchtime, where he will be looking to make his first professional start.

Alex is a huge Manchester United fan, inspired by greats of his homeland such as George Best, Harry Gregg and Norman Whiteside. Proud owner of such niche shirts such as Kleberson, Eric Djemba-Djemba and Gary Neville. Grew up pretending to be Ruud van Nistelrooy and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the back garden, with little success.
