United’s senior players have “made it clear” in the dressing room why the team are struggling so much – Ben Jacobs

As pressure mounts on Ruben Amorim after Manchester United’s poor start to the season, the senior players in the dressing room have made their feelings known on who’s responsible, a report reveals.

Pressure is Already Building

United’s dismal form from last year has continued into the new campaign despite an upturn in the team’s actual performances in-game.

Three defeats from the opening five matches, capped off by the disastrous exit in the Carabao Cup to Grimsby Town, has done little to justify Amorim’s promise at end of the season that the “good times were coming” this term.

Pressure is already building on the Portuguese coach with reports the club have already begun sounding out potential replacements.

Questions persist over Amorim’s system – inexorably linked to his trademark 3-4-2-1 formation – as United’s players continue to struggle to actualise their coach’s philosophy on the pitch.

INEOS remain steadfast in their support of the former Sporting manager with Sir Jim Ratcliffe holding a meeting with him at Carrington yesterday.

Together with chief executive Omar Berrada and sporting director Jason Wilcox, the group discussed the continued run of bad results, but are united in their intention to overcome them without any drastic changes, either in terms of the dugout or the tactical approach.

Amorim knows results must improve sharply, however, with European qualification at the end of the season a directive from INEOS.

Given United are currently 14th in the table, the Portuguese already faces an uphill task just one month into the campaign with Chelsea and Liverpool on the horizon for United.

The Leadership Team

There have been rumours swirling of dressing room discontent at Old Trafford in recent weeks – a classic playbook for the media when the Red Devils hit a rough patch, though The Peoples Person wonders if a ‘patch’ can really be used to describe a ten-year period.

There is little validity to these reports, however, with Ben Jacobs (talkSPORT) revealing the United first team “remain largely behind” their head coach. In fact, senior members of the team, including Harry Maguire, have “made it clear to the group the squad is underperforming.”

Amorim has appointed six stars, including Maguire, club captain Bruno Fernandes, Tom Heaton, Noussair Mazraoui, Diogo Dalot and Lisandro Martinez, to be part of a leadership group in the dressing room.

It’s undoubtedly this selection of players who are taking umbrage with any United stars who are seeking to blame their coach rather than themselves for the unacceptable results of the past ten months.

This reflective approach has been on short supply in recent years and it’s refreshing to see a modicum of personal accountability be applied at Old Trafford.
