United’s FA Cup hero set to seal shock switch to WSL rival – report

Manchester United star Rachel Williams is poised to part ways with the club and make a return to Leicester City, a new report has revealed. Williams set to leave The Athletic’s Megan Feringa and Charlotte Harpur report, “Leicester City are set to sign striker Rachel Williams on a permanent deal from Manchester United.” “The anticipated move will mark a return to the club where Williams progressed through the academy and spent four years in the first team between 2004 and 2008 before she departed for Doncaster Rovers Belles.” Williams joined United in July 2022 and has racked up 90 appearances for United. She has found the back of the net 21 times in that period. She has often been used as an impact substitute by Marc Skinner – a role that she has fulfilled dutifully. Williams signed a contract extension in July 2025, which was due to keep her at the club until the summer of 2026. The United forward was part of the squad that won the FA Cup in 2024 and qualified for the Champions League main draw for the first time in 2025. She will join a Leicester side that are ninth in the WSL rankings, 12 points adrift of United in fourth place. It remains to be seen whether United will replace Williams before the end of the month. So far in the ongoing window, the Reds have signed Hanna Lundkvist and Lea Schuller. United also triggered the one-year options in the contracts of Gabby George, Lisa Naalsund, Elisabeth Terland and Ella Toone.
