United’s CL hero tells Bryan Mbeumo the one area he must work on to become truly unstoppable

Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown has outlined one area for Bryan Mbeumo to work on if he is to reach the next level at the club.

Mbeumo enjoying promising start to life at United

Mbeumo joined United in the summer from Brentford after a fantastic 2024/25 season in which he notched a career-high 20 Premier League goals.

There was high demand for the forward but he made it clear he was only interested in joining United. He travelled with the team for pre-season and has started every top-flight game so far, notching one goal in that period. He also found the back of the net in the humiliating Carabao Cup defeat to Grimsby Town.

Mbeumo has brought renewed energy to United’s right flank, impressing with his strength, movement, and growing chemistry with Amad.

He registered an assist for Mason Mount’s opening goal during Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Sunderland. Mbeumo had a glorious opportunity to get on the scoresheet but failed to convert, dragging his effort well wide.

Speaking to MUTV, Brown pinpointed Mbeumo’s finishing as something the Cameroonian must improve.

Brown gives verdict on Mbeumo

Brown said [as quoted by Metro], “Listen, I think you’re going to see him in that position quite a lot this season and he knows he needs to do better there. You see him get on that left foot, with that much space, and he normally just curls that one in the bottom or top corner. But he was slightly off balance and it wasn’t quite meant to be.”

“I still don’t think he’s at his best and he caused a lot of problems today without maybe the end product, but still the assist was still there.”

“The end product is a little bit off but, again, he’s a brilliant signing for us and exactly what we needed.”

On United’s display against the Black Cats, Brown remarked, “I don’t think you could have asked for much more. When you go 2-0 up at half-time, you’re probably thinking that you’re going to get a couple more. But let’s be honest, there have been times when we’ve gone a couple up and then we’ve stepped off the gas in the second half.”

“I thought we were still pretty good in the second half but without that killer instinct. But with the pressure the lads have been under this week and the new goalkeeper coming in, just before going into an international break, it was a good performance.”

The 2008 Champions League winner hailed the United backline and debutant Senne Lammens for registering a first clean sheet of the campaign.

The Red Devils are back in action on Sunday, October 19, when they take on Liverpool at Anfield.
