United youngster hoping to become latest star to make their mark from over-achieving footballing nation

Manchester United have found a new goalkeeper in the form of Senne Lammens. The Belgian shot-stopper has so far been a significant upgrade on Andre Onana and is considerably more reliable between the sticks. He is not the first Belgian to don a United shirt, and here is a list of all the players from this country to call Old Trafford home. Fellaini was not always everyone’s cup of tea and hardly fit the description of what was considered a United-type player at the time. Nonetheless, over the years, he turned himself into an important player for both Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho. The big Belgian had the knack of scoring important goals, including in the semi-finals of the FA Cup in 2016 and the Europa League in 2017. 2) Romelu Lukaku The Belgian’s all-time record goalscorer arrived at Old Trafford in 2017 for the significant sum of £75 million. He was the club’s top scorer in his first season at the club and played an important role as United finished second and reached the FA Cup final. His influence diminished under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and he was sold to Inter Milan in 2019. He has since gone on to win the Serie A title with both Inter and SSC Napoli. 3) Adnan Januzaj The young attacker was one of the few flames of hope in a dismal 2013–2014 season. The exciting winger wowed fans with his skill and ability to produce in key moments. Nonetheless, his career never really took off in the way everyone felt it should, and he departed the club in 2015. He is currently playing his football for Sevilla in La Liga. 4) Senne Lammens The young keeper joined from Royal Antwerp in the summer and very quickly became the club’s number one. He has so far impressed United fans with his composure and ability to get the fundamentals of goalkeeping correct. Lammens will have much bigger ambitions than this, though, and will surely want to be the United keeper for years to come. 5) Ritchie De Laet The Belgian made his Premier League debut in the 2008–2009 season when he started at left-back against Hull City. He would not make it at Old Trafford, but he did win a Premier League medal with Leicester City in 2016. 6) Marnick Vermijl The right-back made two appearances in the Premier League for United. He played for various teams in the Championship after leaving Old Trafford before returning to Belgium to play. 7) Largie Ramazani Ramazani made one senior appearance for the Red Devils away to FC Astana in the Europa League in 2019. He moved to Spain to play for Almeria for four years before joining Leeds United. He is currently on loan at FC Valencia this season. – The Peoples Person has been one of the world’s leading Man United news sites for over a decade.
