Manchester United Women were held to a 0-0 draw by Aston Villa at home in the Barclays Women’s Super League on Sunday.
The visitors took the Reds by surprise in the first half with their high press but United defended well and headed into the break level.
Marc Skinner’s side came out with more aggression in the second half and the substitutes helped raise the levels, but it wasn’t enough to break Villa down in the end.
After six league matches, United Women remain unbeaten.

FIRST HALF
Following a minute’s silence for Remembrance Sunday – beautifully observed by both sets of fans – United got things under way.
Phallon Tullis-Joyce was almost tackled by Gabi Nunes as the Reds’ keeper tried to play out from the back, but the American was able to clear under pressure.
Villa looked for an opener, but United appeared happy to try and hit the visitors on the break.
Tullis-Joyce was forced to react when Rachel Daly charged down the right and found Jordan Nobbs in the middle, but the keeper was equal to the resulting effort.
Ex-Red Kirsty Hanson tried her luck, with the rebound falling to Nobbs. Tullis-Joyce recovered well and managed to tip it over the bar.
United needed to get a foothold in the game and we did through Celin Bizet, who found space on the right and delivered a fantastic ball into Melvine Malard. The forward rose higher than the Villa defence but her header went wide. Moments later, Malard set up Elisabeth Terland but again the header was off target.
Another big chance came for the visitors when United lost possession whilst playing out from the back. Chasity Grant’s delivery found Nunes in the six-yard box, but Tullis-Joyce managed to scoop up her strike.
Grant looked to have shaken off Gabby George on the stroke of half-time, but our defender managed to get the block in, keeping it level going into the interval.
SECOND HALF
United started the second half much stronger. Malard charged down the right and delivered a ball in towards Janssen and Clinton. The latter connected well with it but her powerful strike was just a fraction wide. Moments later, Toone got an opportunity but her shot was punched away by Sabrina D’Angelo.
Geyse made an immediate impact on the game after being introduced as a substitute, taking the ball away from Dani Turner before finding Toone in the middle of the area. Our no.7 forced a save from D’Angelo as the Reds looked to go ahead.
At the other end, Katie Robinson had a late opportunity to take the lead, but once against George was there to keep the score level.

Skinner’s side finished the stronger of the two sides, as Geyse danced past defenders again and managed to get a cross in, but Terland’s eventual strike flew over the bar.
Both sides dug deep for a winner but had to settle for a point each, meaning the Reds remain unbeaten in the league this term.
