United turn to “unstoppable” marksman who ripped Barcelona to shreds in the Champions League – report

Manchester United are stepping up their pursuit of a striker with less than four weeks of the transfer window remaining.

Frustrating search so far

United have already seen key targets such as Liam Delap, Viktor Gyokeres and Hugo Ekitike join rival Premier League clubs.

The Red Devils have since focused on Benjamin Sesko as their main striker target.

Nonetheless, Newcastle United have already made two large bids for the player, putting into question whether United have the financial capacity to reach an agreement with Red Bull Leipzig.

Alternatives being lined up

United are still hopeful of completing a deal for Sesko but alternative targets are being drawn up just in case they miss out.

It is possible that Ruben Amorim’s side may make a return for Ollie Watkins but The Sun have linked United to a new option, Evangelos Pavlidis.

The English newspaper reports that “Amorim and United are looking at both Porto’s Spain international Samu Aghehowa and Benfica’s Greek star Vangelis Pavlidis.”

Wealth of experience

The Greek forward is 26-years-old and has a wealth of experience at club and international level.

He has 48 caps for Greece and moved to SL Benfica last season.

In an impressive debut campaign, Pavlidis fired in 30 goals in 57 appearances for As Águias.

The Greek forward famously scored a hattrick for Benfica against Barcelona in the Champions League and ended the tournament with nine goals in total.

He has been described as a forward who is “unstoppable in front of goal”.

The striker is also viewed as having “strong ball control ability and is capable of sniffing out chances with his shrewd positioning in the opposing half and his excellent shooting accuracy.”
