Amid transfer links to an array of central midfielders, Manchester United appear to be on the path to a massive signing spree.
Carlos Baleba has long been viewed as an option, with the club expressing their interest in signing him during the summer, only to put off a bid due to his exorbitant price tag. Still, Fabrizio Romano suggested that a transfer next summer is still under consideration.
Meanwhile, Adam Wharton has been tipped to be one of United’s preferred candidates for the role, with the England international impressing at Crystal Palace.
There is then Angelo Stiller of VfB Stuttgart, who is expected to be available for €50 million, meaning that he could be a more affordable option should United look to better preserve their transfer budget.
However, a new report has indicated that United might not have to select just one midfielder from their shortlist, given a fresh transfer decision.
United’s transfer decision revealed
“Manchester United are open to adding two new midfielders in 2026, talkSPORT understands,” Ben Jacobs and Alex Crook wrote for talkSPORT.
This would imply that United could instead submit offers for any two of the three aforementioned players, meaning that Wharton and Baleba could line up alongside one another if the club is willing to splash such funds.
Still, there’s another candidate on the list who the club seems to be seriously considering, even as early as the January transfer window.
Amorim’s January target
As previously relayed by The Peoples Person, United manager Ruben Amorim has taken a liking to Atletico Madrid star Conor Gallagher, who he sees as a potential replacement for Kobbie Mainoo.
What’s more, United are believed to be considering a January bid for the player, meaning he could arrive at Old Trafford ahead of the likes of Baleba, who is believed not to be available until next summer.
TalkSPORT acknowledged in their article that United would ideally like to bring in the player on loan before making a permanent commitment. The club is believed to have attempted a loan move in the summer, only for Atletico to decline the approach due to their desire to secure a sale.
With doubts hanging over the futures of Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo, signing two midfielders instead of one could be the right move for United, particularly if they are aiming to qualify for European football next season.
