Manchester United are close to making a final decision on who will replace Ruben Amorim as interim head coach until the end of the season, following meetings with Michael Carrick and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. It is understood that Carrick is the leading candidate for the interim position, with an announcement expected within the next 48 hours. Carrick previously served as Solskjaer’s assistant from 2018 to 2021 and took charge of United for three matches after the Norwegian’s departure. During this period, Bruno Fernandes enjoyed a prolific run of form as a number 10. Having played a deeper role under Amorim, the Portuguese playmaker is likely to be given a more advanced attacking role once again. However, United may need to identify a new talisman to rely on from next season onwards.
